The Kokuso Korean Mulberry has sweet and delicious large, lighter purple fruit that can be 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. The berries are not so leaky like other varieties, so would be a great choice for market or table, or for processing. It is early bearing and a heavy producer, but is not everbearing, so the fruit season does not last forever like other everbearing varieties. This variety also doesn't drop it's berries readily, so also has potential to be less messy. From Korea, and grown as far north as Minnesota, it is hardy in zones 5-9. This variety is considered semi-dwarf, and tends to have branch attachments, making it a perfect climbing tree! This mulberry is considered to be Morus latifolia, as opposed to the more common Morus alba.
