Cotinus obovatus. Native to the limestone based soils of Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Alabama, where they spring from rocky crevasses. The rocky outcrops where it grows in the wild attest to its heat, drought, and soil tolerances.

With a multi-trunk form, this tree/shrub grows to a maximum height of about 25' with an oval, round-headed canopy. Leaves are oval-elliptic, 2-5" long with color ranges from blue-green to dark green. There is a wide range of fall colors, from yellow and orange to red, often intermingled. Small yellow-green flowers open in spring and are soon lost among cotton-candy inflorescences with a green or red-purple blush.

This is a fine small specimen tree, with minimal pruning and maintenance required.
