Jujube, Wild (Bare Root)

Ziziphus spinosa. The wild jujube, aka sour jujube. Makes excellent rootstock for the larger, tastier domesticated varieties, but it's also a climate resilient, long-lived, medicine producing tree in it's own right.

Powdered seeds of these small fruits are a component to over 60% of traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions where it is used to calm the mind and reduce insomnia. There is plenty of modern research showing anxiolytic (anti anxiety) and hypnotic sleep promoting qualities of this powdered product. The plant's fruit, seeds, leaves, roots, branches, bark, and flowers are all edible and have many uses.
