Sunflower, Maximillian

A large, native, drought tolerant, prairie perennial sunflower shrub that can be cut to the ground each year. Can get up to 8' tall or so, bending to the ground with masses of bright yellow blooms. After blooming, seeds are great bird forage. Survives the winter as an underground tuber, which is edible (similar to jerusalem artichoke in flavor and use, but less invasive spread).
